Safety First

Both provincial and municipal solid waste by-laws mandate that any large item with a door, including freezers, must have the door and lid removed. This is to prevent children from becoming trapped inside. Municipalities do not accept freezers as containers for regular garbage collection.

Recycling Mandate

Freezers and other large household appliances (white goods) are banned from landfill disposal in Nova Scotia because they can be recycled.

For more information on household item disposal, visit modg.ca or our Sorting Guide page.

Residents can also call the Municipal Office at 902-533-3705 or Eastern Region Solid Waste Management at 1-888-377-9622.
