Jacqueline ‘Dort’ Memorial Bursary
This bursary has been created in honor and recognition of Councillor/Deputy Warden Jackie Dort, Vice Chair of our Eastern Region Solid Waste Management Committee who passed away on July 21, 2020. Jackie served as a Municipal Councillor for District 6 since 2001 and as member for the Municipality on our Committee since 2003. She believed in people helping people, and actively involved herself as a Councillor and by supporting youth as a Girl Guide Leader for many years, which she thoroughly enjoyed. As a Committee member she was engaged and passionate about the work, always on top of the file, to update and support her Council on issues important to the Municipality and Province. Jackie’s contribution to our Committee will be missed and the things she stood for which influenced the criteria for this bursary will recognize a young person whom she would be proud to assist. For these reasons, a one-time amount of $500 will be awarded this year to a 2024 high school graduate who resides in the Municipality of the District of Guysborough.

Provincial Recycling Programs
All Nova Scotia residents have access to recycling and most have organic waste collected curbside for composting. This section provides information on the many other mandatory recycling programs in addition to those available for residential curbside collection. The Used Oil and Glycol recycling program administered by the Used Oil Management Association (UOMA) is our newest program. It was added to the Provincial list 2020. The E-Waste program was expanded at the same time.
